Welcome

Birmingham City University and NESTA (National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts) have now launched not one, but two Insight Out enterprise training programmes for 2007 and 2008.

The hugely successful Insight Out programme in the West Midlands region, now in its third year of delivery, is accompanied this year by a new initiative - Insight Out for moving image businesses which is for applicants from the wider Midlands region. Both programmes focus on specific sectors of creative businesses and are designed to help and encourage anyone who wants to set up their own business in the creative industries. Participants on each programme receive expert tuition, advice, support - and at the end of their training, a chance to pitch for additional funding.

Testimonials:

Gaelle Roche photo"The people we had in to give us presentations and advice were incredible. I feel privileged to have been brought into contact with them. It is easily the best business development scheme I've been on."

Paul Byass photo"The programme highlights the gaps in the business idea so that they can be focused upon to develop a more rounded business plan. We will spend the money awarded to us on the development of the preproduction prototype to take it to a level where it can be tested for CE compliance. This will enable us to sell the product throughout the European community and with further testing on a worldwide basis."

Kiran Khan photo"The funding I got and the great friends I made out of the course, the peers I met, made me feel I wasn't the only one in the boat. I also developed further, useful contacts within the industry to help me continue my work further."

Karinna Sellars photo"Through Insight Out I've gained a wealth of knowledge. It has provided me with new business skills, built on skills I already had, highlighted my strengths and weaknesses and inspired me with the confidence that Dean and I will succeed with this new business venture. The advice I would give to others wanting to set up their own business in the creative industries is to seek as much support and advice as you can. You don't have to try and do everything yourself. Most importantly - follow your dreams."
